Obituary for Dorothy Siegrist

Of Waukesha, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 in the Arbor at Avalon Square, Waukesha, WI at the age of 94 years. Dorothy was born in Waukesha, WI on November 6, 1921, the daughter of Ernest and Ida Hunkins. Dorothy graduated Waukesha High School and on February 28, 1942, married the love of her life, Erv Siegrist. Together they shared 67 wonderful years building their family and enjoying life. After Erv passed away in 2009, Dorothy lived independently in her home in Waukesha until she was 93 years old when she moved into Avalon Square in downtown Waukesha.

Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church and a dedicated mother and homemaker. She also served the community in many ways including her work and efforts at the Waukesha Memorial Hospital, the Waukesha Public Library, and the First United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies including sewing and knitting as well as baking and cake decorating, She always enjoyed reading - newspapers, magazines, and all things written.

Dorothy will always be remembered for her bright smile and the sparkle in her eyes and for her inspiring love of life. She had an enduring spunk and desire to do all she could to help make her family and friends happy and see that they were well cared for.

Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family: children Dennis (Jerri) of Waukesha, WI, Bob (Sue) of Boulder, CO, and Jan (John) Simon of Waukesha, WI; grandchildren (9) DJ (Rachel), Scott (Debbie), Mike (Kelly), Jonathan, Brandon (Kristen), Ryan, Lizzie, Danny and Nate; great-grandchildren (5) Cristian, Caitlin, Matthew, Bailey, and Wyatt; siblings Grace, Ernie (Kathleen), Margaret (John), and Kenny; brothers-in-law, John W., Buster, and John C.; and many other relatives and friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Erv, daughter Carol, siblings Ilamae, Marlene, Marlin, and Garney, sisters-in-law Virginia and Judy, and brothers-in-law Bernard, Bob, Donald, and Cal.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will occur on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186, Rev. Dan Schwerin officiating. The visitation will be at the Church from 9:30 until the time of the 11:00 a.m. service. A private family burial will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church of Waukesha c/o Dorothy Siegrist, 121 Wisconsin Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. Dorothy and her family extend a special recognition and thank you to the Avalon Square in Waukesha for the warm home environment and the wonderful loving staff that combined to give Dorothy such a high quality of life during her 1.5 years there.
